Re: [platform-dev] [eclipse.org-planning-council] 2021-06, 2021-09, 2021-12 schedule - Change December release date?

I haven't thought it through, but that is not a bad idea. It gives us a proper Apr M1 period and it would also solve this December squeeze.

Cheers, Wim

You asked for opinions. My opinion is that the schedule pain is not in the december release but in the march release,

So do you actually propose release cycles to be Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct ?

Hi,

Assuming everyone starts again Jan 2, there are about 10 workdays for March M1. I prefer combining March M1 and M2 over shortening December.

How would that help the goal to have some time for reaction between December release and Christmas?

Cheers,

Wim

Planning council discusses moving one week earlier the 2021-12 release so there is time for reaction (if there is need for it) before Christmas.
Personally I think the proposal makes sense and the best way is by shortening the December cycle, that way it will be more like the March one (which loses M1 time due to Christmas vacations).
Let me know if there are objections/proposals/opinions with reasons behind them so I can present the Eclipse TLP opinion on the next meeting.

I prepared the schedule for 2021-06, 2021-09 and 2021-12.
Please review it on the wiki and confirm that it is okay for you by
answering to this email:

For the 2021-12, if we follow the classical pattern we will have mostly
the same release date as the one this year.
If we would like to have one week between the GA and the holidays, we
can reduce M1 dev period for this release by one week and then release
on December 8th.

2021-12 M1      Friday, October 08, 2021        10/01 to 10/08
*2 weeks from 2021-09 GA*
2021-12 M2      Friday, November 5, 2021        10/22 to 10/29          3 weeks from M1
2021-12 M3      Friday, November 19, 2021       11/12 to 11/19
3 weeks from M2
2021-12 RC1     Friday, November 26, 2021       11/19 to 11/26
1 week from M3
2021-12 RC2     Friday, December 3, 2021        11/26 to 12/03          1 week from RC1
Quiet period    12/03 to 12/07
2021-12 GA      Wednesday, December 8, 2021
5 days from RC2

What do you think?

Best regards,
