Hi,

I know I talked with John about that thing at an EclipseCon US many many
years ago and what I took from that conversation was (I hope I remember
correctly):
* Yes it is doable
* Yes it is a lot of work (IIRC he said multiple man years)
* IBM would have to decide to go all-in or leave it like it is
* Without downstream projects (JDT, ...) makeing the change as well it
  does not make a whole lot of sense

As Pascal said: I think the guy who knows most about this John so you
can/should/must try to reach out to him.
