Re: [platform-dev] eclipse on linux ppc

Pierre,

the best way to get started is to visit http://www.eclipse.org. You will find information about Linux in the FAQ (http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/faq/eclipse-faq.html) and the newsgroup (news://www.eclipse.org/eclipse.tools) already contains several threads about Linux.

I would like to try eclipse on my linux ppc
(PowerBook G4 382RAM) on a kde desktop (if it is
possible), kernel 2.4.4.

But I do not really know how to start. Is it a
document I could read.

My first question is: should I use OpenMotif or GTK ?

For gtk, I only have gtkmdk pakage:
[pierre@localhost pierre]$  rpm -q gtk+
package gtk+ is not installed
[pierre@localhost pierre]$  rpm -q gtk+mdk
gtk+mdk-0.1.5-5mdk

Will it be working with this specific mdk gtk or
should I go for OpenMotif ?

Actually, it does not seem so easy to me. Shall I
unzip and compile all the .src.zip in the plug-in
directory ?

Is it a way to get a src files that would be easily
compilable using ./configure, make and make install.

I do not have much C/C++ experience (I am a java
guys). So I am not sure I can handle this.

(was so easy on windows; always the same that do not
get into trouble :-)

Thanks in advance for your advices.

best regards,

Pierre
