Re: [photran] [tools-pmc] Removing the Parallel EPP download

Dear all,
I still use Photran in PTP, and I would not have the knowledge to jump in and maintain it. If it is removed I will stick with the last Eclipse version that provides it. It is sufficiently stable for me.

Hi James,

Thank you for your insights. The project is having a termination review precisely to gather such input. The Eclipse Development Process lists a termination review as having this purpose (quoted below). As there hasn't been a release of this code in approximately 8 years and not a single commit in 2+ years the project appears to be inactive. Hopefully we can come to the desired outcome which is to keep the project active and renewed.

6.3.6 Termination Review

The purpose of a Termination Review is to provide a final opportunity for the Committers and/or Eclipse Membership at Large to discuss the proposed archiving of a Project. The desired outcome is to find sufficient evidence of renewed interest and resources in keeping the Project active.

You should NEVER terminate anything that your users have and use.

Dear all,
it's been a week since my last email.
Since I have not received any feedback on the Eclipse Photran Fortran Development Tools Project (https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/tools.ptp.photran) I will be scheduling a termination review in the upcoming days.
Kind regards,
Maria Teresa

Dear PMC, Jeffrey, Jonah,
we are completing the termination review for the Eclipse PTP project. While doing this I realized PTP is parent to Eclipse Photran Fortran Development Tools (https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/tools.ptp.photran) which seems to be inactive as well.
Do any of you have any insights regarding this project? Should we consider it for termination as well? or would you prefer moving this project directly under the Tools TLP?
Look forward to receiving your feedback.

Hi folks,

The PTP project has started a termination review and its JIPP has already been shutdown. As the PTP project was the main added value of the Parallel package (compared to CPP package) we are going to remove it from EPP (and PTP from SimRel) as there isn't any way to build updates.

See https://github.com/eclipse-packaging/packages/issues/85 for details and more links and a last minute chance to weigh in if you have concerns or questions.

FTR I am sad to see this package go, it still gets many downloads so some users are likely to miss it, but unless someone steps forward to maintain the PTP project I can't see how it can have a reasonable future.

Thank you Greg and everyone else for your contributions to PTP and Parallel package.

Jonah
