Re: [paho-dev] Python - dropping support for 2.7

As I mentioned in a tweet, I'm good with this decision, although I acknowledge that we might want to keep the final branch (1.6.x?) supporting Python v2.7 "alive" for a little while for some additional bug fixes if they arise. If it's stable, people can continue to use it.

(Note: I use the term "we" rather loosely.)

I'm somewhat agnostic to the version numbering, but agree that going to 2.0 would make it easy to remember.

Dear all,

Python 2.7 went end of line in January 2020. I am proposing that the
Paho Python library finally drops support for Python 2.7 after 1st
January 2022, i.e the next non-bugfix release after this date would
not include support for 2.7. Perhaps it should be called version 2.0
to celebrate the breaking change.

If this is going to be a problem for you then please speak up now!

Roger
