Re: [p2-dev] Categories

I think the "no prefix on the category id" is causing bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=274356 in the UI.

you're right, we are not adding the prefix to the name in the update site.   I will investigate.

I have also put a fix together (yesterday, but it hasn't been released yet) to add version numbers.  (0.0.0.qualifier). This should help make categories unique.

thanks,
Ian

I was using the site wizard. I purposely used the same category name and ID for a series of tests. I was using 0429-0800.

Based on your explanation and the category definitions in the site content.xml files, I understand why it didn't work. But I don't see how to make it work without hacking.

Re: [p2-dev] Categories

    James,

This should work, however because categories are IUs and IUs are always processed as a set, if a category has the same ID and version (don't ask about category versions), then only 1 will get chosen.

We have added a prefix to categories to help make the ID unique.  How did you generate your metadata for the categories?  (and what build did you use).

    cheers,
    ian

Can someone clarify the category behavior of a site. I was expecting the category to work differently. For instance if I have a category "apples". I would expect that I could pull in "Red Delicious IU" from one site and "Jonathan IU" from another site. But what happens one is site is arbitrarily chosen to represent a category and the remaining IUs from other sites are masked.
