In the Fall, Google sponsored the Undergrad Capstone Open Source Projects (http://ucosp.ca) student credit. We had 3 students and out of it got some great 'vi' updates, plugin examples and work on a Markdown plugin.
In the Winter session starting now, Facebook is sponsoring https://www.facebook.com/OpenAcademyProgram which is an affiliation between Universities and Open Source Foundations, Eclipse in our case.
We will have 5-6 students available who will be required to put in 7-9 hours per week on Open Source contributions and thus we need mentors for tasks appropriately sized. A task does not have to cover the entire semester but can if needed. I will act as the main contact point for the group, but mentors will be expected to provide weekly feedback and guidance over instant messaging, email and/or hangout like chats. So expect 1-2 hours per week of your time on this.
