[orion-dev] browser extensions for tab management (good GSOC project?)

We were talking briefly about browser extensions for tab management on the UX call today.
I couldn't bear to attach a huge screenshot of the one I mentioned, so I started a wiki page for collecting them.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Orion/Browser_Extensions

I've spent almost a week using "Tabs Outliner."  I just wanted to see if it helped.  As the screencap in the wiki shows, it lets you organize tabs into groups.  I really like being able to have my "Orion" setup that includes everything from my Orion tabs to my github account, bugzilla, the gecko dom reference, etc. etc.

To be honest, having most of that in my browser history already makes it easy for me to get to those things.  But as often as we clear caches or history, it's kind of nice to have a place that groups the things I use together.

I think it shows potential for sure.

So I got to wondering if work on Orion tab management would be a good GSOC project.  A combination of exploiting tab reuse, etc., and then either picking a couple extensions to support, or else an Orion-focused extension.

There are also a number of browser extensions that will split windows.  I used one on FF quite a bit last year in the editor, but again I found myself having to remember it was there and reverting to my old habits.

I guess I never fell in love with any of these enough to embrace them fully, I tend to revert to the task bar and browser history.
