Hi JJB, I must admit the API doc is a little bit stale. Updating it manully is cumbersome. I was thinking about keeping it in sync in the same way guys from Wordnik[1] or Apigee[2] do. Unfortunately, this ain't something that will happen in the nearest future. Have you tried creating a branch in Orion Client? Take a look at the console then and see how the request should look like. And last but not least, feel free to update the wiki if you find it out-dated.
