Re: [orbit-dev] eclipse.org disk quota notice

I always read them. But what action I take is another matter. It depends.

Its my understanding the purpose of these are to help spot "out of control" growth ... such as if we get "11 used, 10 is quota" month after month ... then we probably need to ask webmaster to increase quota a little ... i.e. "11" is pretty normal, especially as we approach release of SR2 at same time we are working on Luna.

But, if it is 11 of 10 one month, 15 of 10 the next month, 20 of 10 the next month ... then that is a sign something is obviously "wrong" and needs to be fixed.

But, if you meant you are volunteering to "pay attention" to these, ... feel free :)
Just be sure you open a bug so I know what action you are taking :)

I'll point out a little known secret. If people looked closely, on file system, they'd see we have a lot of  "old releases" of Orbit repositories on "main site", but in fact, some of the older ones I have moved to archives, and simply left a minimum "composite" site at main download, that points to the archive location. (See listing at end).

The other "trick" I try to remember, is to do normal "clean up" before the weekend .. since that is when the quota report's are ran. This time I forgot,
So, I have just now removed the "M builds" since everyone that was using one of those, should move to the latest R build, for Kepler SR2.
Removing those M builds should take us below the quota, again. But, as we add some more "S builds" we will likely go over again, before we get to Luna.

I'm sure there is much more we could do to minimize disk usage, but, again, I think primary purpose of these reports is not so much to "limit what we use", but is more to make sure "we are making responsible use" of Eclipse Foundation resources.

That's probably more than you wanted to know ... but, you know me.

Thanks for asking,

Just wondering, is anyone paying attention to this?
