Re: [orbit-dev] Status and outlook for Orbit for Helios streams -- ready for "R build"?

I've just realized we did not plan this quite right. We should have planned on promoting an R build earlier,
so people could use "final URL" (and content) for their RC4 builds ... there really should not be any "Final Builds"
after RC4, if possible and only if bad problems found.

Hence, here is what I'll do. I'll rename and promote the current S-build, S20100519200754.
In way that leaves current S-build in place, but provide an R-build,
that has exact same content, for those that want to finalize their build scripts now, during RC4.
This is only a few days earlier than I originally said, and not sure if early enough for the Platform to use,
but at least it will be there in case it is.

I'm assuming everyone is done for Orbit, since I haven't heard anything or seen any bugs, but if you do have
a really bad bug, we can always produce another R build and ask forgiveness for churn.

[Remind me next year to promote final build earlier :) ]

Thanks, everyone.

05/28 (one week before RC4 +0)

   None. No change from previous.

06/04 (one week before Final +0)
If anyone has any serious bugs that _have_ to be fixed this final week, please
broadcast notice and review here to this orbit-dev list.
On 6/4, the final Helios Orbit build will be renamed to an "R build" for final consumption, and become persistent.
On about 6/6 all the Orbit S builds will be removed, to not-so-gently remind everyone to use the R build.

Even after R build is declared, I'd suggest no changes be made to Orbit, even if intended for post Helios streams,
just in case some blocking defect is found that requires a new R build at the last minute.

After the end of June, we'll assume any new Orbit work is intended for Indigo. If anyone finds
Helios maintenance is required, please bring that up separately and we will (probably) have
a "branched build" (where the map files are branched)

As always, feel free to post questions or issue here to orbit-dev list.
