Dear all, as Dietmar said, the standard will not be issued until late 2016. A running server will be provided within a short time frame after release. E.g. for ODS 5.3 nearly all
new features were implemented shortly after the documentation release. For ODS 6 we don’t expect major troubles that extent work to up another year as we have to add / exchange an interface “plug-in” only. We usually utilize the time of the TSC to review the
new specification for working on a new implementation. I am not familiar with the current status of ODS 6 but dependent on if it already covers data streaming, for example, there might some use cases it doesn’t fit right away
for all use cases. This is another story though. Thanks Ralf

Im Auftrag von Dietmar Rapf Dear Gerwin, I fear I have to disappoint you. The standard ODS 6.0 will hopefully be defined and released by the end of 2016. Normally it take roughly 1 year until a working ODS server that is based on the new
standard is available, ending up in this case at the end of 2017. As there will be completely new technology involved – getting rid of CORBA – both, the definition of the standard and the implementation of a productivly usable server might take even more time. Best

open-measured-data-wg-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Dietmar Rapf Dear openMDM working group, as we are discussing technology topics in the WG and the architecture committee right now, I would like to point to an evaluation of the technology for future ODS versions (6.x) that was ordered by the ASAM office and
carried out in the first and allready finalised step by Fraunhofer IAIS and will be continued in the second, still ongoing step by s+c (performance tests). It is the “Evaluation for the applicability of Apache Thrift and Protocol Buffers for ASAM ODS 6.0” where the two technologies are evaluated for serialization and RPC capabilities. In the first step the evaluation
was on a more formal level adressing activity of the projects, documentation, language support, encoding support (types of variables), API / RPC features, security features, … but also basic performance tests. The second part focusses on performance with
the typical bandwith of ODS data. As a result it became clear, that the two technologies are very similar in many aspects. Apache Thrift is recommended in the report mainly because of better support for the realisation of web services. ASAM members can download the report and a presentation here:
