Re: [open-measured-data-wg] Jira Open Source license request by MDM@WEB was approved: https://mdmweb.atlassian.net

Dear all

Thanks to Alex to organizing this.

We will move the issues regarding the current development (Rich Client & Demonstrator) from the privately hosted JIRA to the one below on monday 23rd, right before the first sprint ends - so don’t expect any content before then. Andreas Benzing and me will also create the first bugzilla sprint issue then, which can serve as a template.

Regarding the points mentioned by Alexander:

1) Free read access is required by the agreement we made with Ralph Müller last friday.
2) I strongly recommend option b) self sign-up without any restrictions. That is the way it is done normally for open source projects. If any problems should occur, we can still take some actions, but I don’t expect any.
3) On the short term, may be Andreas Benzing should have Admin rights too. On the long term I suggest to tie the overall admin privileges to Requirements Engineering Service.
4) nothing to add :-)

Best regards
Sibylle

Dear all,

as you can see below, our Jira OnDemand instance (with Jira Agile) with an open source license is ready to use: https://mdmweb.atlassian.net

At the moment, only Sibylle and me have read/write access, so that there is to decide, how we want to handle access/user creation and who should be entitled to have admin privileges. The current situation is considered as on an interim basis.

As Jira must be publicly available, there are some things to consider regarding access, user creation etc.

1)      I granted access to anyone, i.e. everyone can view issues etc. Please feel free to check out our Jira that way.
2)      For creating users, there are 2 options
a.       Users are created by administrators
b.      User can self sign up. This can be restricted to certain domains regarding their email adress.
3)      Who should be granted general admin privileges and how is the admin effort related to a service/project?
4)      Besides the general admin privileges there is a system of groups/roles/permission. Those have to be defined at least on a per project basis. This could be done by the project lead/leading service provider for the project.

Decisions for item 2 and 3 should be made by the steering committee.

Regards

Alex

Project Description

Background:

openMDM® is described as "an open-source, freely configurable and expandable software building block for the management of measurement data. Based on open standards and open interfaces, its other key features include high re-usability, flexible expandability and universal usability".

openMDM® uses a data storage system that complies with the Open Data Services (ODS) standard of the Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems e.V. (ASAM). ASAM is an organization which was set up by German car manufacturers to standardize data models and interfaces for simulation, measurement and evaluation systems. ODS thereby ensures compatibility of data across different platforms and tools by specifying a consistent format.

This project will provide a web client to allow lightweight access to openMDM® data.
Scope:

The MDM@WEB project covers components which are required to build a web client to work with data according to the ASAM ODS standard for reading and reporting purposes. It facilitates the interaction with servers following the ASAM ODS standard, file based exchange of (meta-)data, and provides a graphical user interface for browsing and handling the available data. The scope of the project can be summarized as follows:

Modules for generic interaction with ASAM ODS server back-end.
Front-end for navigation in and search for measurement meta-data:
Pre-processing of data.
Rendering of data.
Interface for external measurement processing and analysis tools:
Handling of file references to raw measurement data.
Export to compatible formats (atfx, csv).

Description:

MDM@WEB includes multiple components for handling measured data. These components are structured to allow for high re-usability of core components like the communication with the ODS server or the import and export of data. In addition to these core components the project includes a web-based front-end.

The list of components includes:

Navigator.
Search (Meta-Data).
Search (Full-Text).
Export.
Reporting.
Shopping Cart (for interaction with local tools).
Localization.
User Documentation.
Administration.
Data Sharing.
Archiving.

Additional Notes

We're currently setting up the project at Eclipse (MDM@WEB). Our Eclipse Working Group is already organized and working (https://www.eclipse.org/org/workinggroups/mdmwg_charter.php), but the MDM@WEB project itself is not set up completely. So our code repository is not available yet, but will be soon.
One of the Eclipse WG members, Canoo, is a long term customer of Atlassian and uses Jira internally with a recent version. As well do we, science + computing ag. But the only public available site is the one I provided, also if in an older version of Jira.
As Eclipse demands to use Bugzilla as the projects official bugtracker, we decided to just use it as an archive for filed issues and link from there to the Jira instance we would like to have hosted by Atlassian.
If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me.
