Re: [nebula-dev] [technology-pmc] Committer election for Angelo ZERR

The bug lists were not included in the mailing list archive or in the portal record.

Did we have a technology malfunction?

Without the bug lists, the nomination reads like "Angelo is a good guy, vote for him".

The Nebula is somewhat of a "strange" project since most widgets are owned and maintained by their individual contributors.

The process if electing Angelo was done as follows:

We have opened bugs for the pending contributions.
Then we asked all committers to take a look and comment on the widgets, and they did
Then I drafted the nomination and we voted Angelo in.

Did I miss something in this process?

Wim

This automatically generated message signals that Wim Jongman has nominated
Angelo ZERR as a Committer on the technology.nebula project. The reason
given is as follows:

Angelo is willing to contribute and maintain a number of components to the
Nebula project.

See bug list next

Angelo is committed to Eclipse and he has contributed to many bug reports.

Hi Wayne,

Thank a lot to have taking time to explain the problem.
I understand more now your post.

This is all good stuff.

What we're looking for in the nomination criteria is a list of things that you've done specifically for the project (Nebula in this case). Speaking very generally, being a committer on one project does not give you a free pass to join another project as a committer. You have to earn your way into every project on which you are a committer.

The problem here is not one of whether or not you are qualified to join the project. There is a public record that--with some digging--I was able to uncover. The problem was that the nomination criteria did not spell it out. The basic idea is that we need a transparent record (in as easy a form to consume as possible) of the criteria by which every committer joins the project.

The Technology PMC made a decision just a few weeks ago that--rather than simply rejecting nominations with insufficient nomination criteria--we'd dig to try and find it, make sure the demonstration of merit is adequately captured, and--assuming that all goes according to plan--approve the vote.

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I will try to tell you my contribution about Eclipse.

1) I'm E4 commiter (but not really commited) because I'm the creator of the Eclispe E4 CSS Engine coming from TK-UI project.
2) I have created WTP Jetty Eclipse Plugin
3) another contribution about JFace Databinding, ECF, XWT that you can find in my blog http://angelozerr.wordpress.com/about/

Hope this information will help you.

Hi Wayne,

Angelo proposed two widgets.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=367064
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=365948

Nebula is and has always accepted code BUT ONLY if the contributor also
agreed to support them after dumping it to Nebula (we don't have the
resources to do it ourselves).

So yes the contributions from Angelo are significant.
