Re: [nebula-dev] Release Schedule discussion

I think a primary benefit of Nebula is as place for people to go to to see all the available Eclipse SWT widgets, and where they can then download stable

Yes, I feel the same.

Nebula project itself. Nebula has never had a release as far as I know. I know it's being worked on, but the solution seems to be targeted primarily towards the aggregation of multiple widgets into a single build.

Well that is the first required step. Once we have a stable infra we are going to git and restructure the repo. After that we are going to execute Tom's plan which will work towards a stable Nebula release and follow-up releases.

Is this acceptable for you?

Yes but I think we need to avoid isolating widgets.

If not, it would help me to know more about how you'd see NatTable being able to develop and release within the context of the Nebula project itself.

That is something that we want you to participate in as well because you are the currently the one with this requirement. What are your ideas in this?

The current state of Nebula-proper is that we have a bunch of stable widgets. All these widgets will be build and published to the same catalog every night. Let's assume that this includes the NatTable. This means that you have your code published on a well known spot almost instantaneously at say: http:o.e.n/nightly

Suppose that you want to release every month and Nebula-proper wants to release with the Eclipse release cycle (3 times a year). We could make a "release build" that picks up the latest stable version of every widget and you could hit that build button every time you want to release. it is published at http:o.e.n/stable

We could also work with a master branch and a release branch. Everyone can code in master (for nightly) and release in one of the release branches. Just some ideas that we need to implement.

Like you said. The widget catalog is important. So it would be nice if NatTable is one of the stable widgets in the Nebula-proper release. We then must be careful not to point people to different places to get the binaries.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I am very happy either way.

Let's discuss this some more. Is it a good idea to setup a conference call?

We also need to get the CQ going for NatTable.

Wim

Thanks,
Edwin
