[nebula-dev] In light of Restructuting - On our builds and CVS

Hi Nebula-Devs,

On CVS:
-------
As many of you might have noticed the end of CVS is though not here yet
it is coming one day or the other. Now that we are currently
restructuring Nebula it would be a perfect point in time to think about
moving our code from CVS into Git which would make it much easier for
people contribute.

I think especially for Nebula where none full time committers are
working on the codebase a DVCS is an interesting option for you and our
users. EGit the Eclipse tooling for Git is improving from day to day and
- though not as good as the CVS one - is mature enough so that we can
use it.

On Builds:
----------
You might have noticed that our cbi-based builds got broken out of blue
sky and we've (at least I) have not been able to fix it. I was myself
never happy with the cbi-build story and would have preferred one of the
other 2 build options:
* Maven / Tycho
* Buckminster / b3

I think it's the time now to move to one of those 2 build systems. I
already contact some of the Buckminster people but didn't yet got a
response whether they could help us setting up a b3 build. Beside that
I've been in contact we Dave Carver and he offered some of his cycles to
get us going with Maven 3/Tycho.

So is anybody here completely against a Maven 3 / Tycho build story and
would prefer me contact the Buckminster people once more?

My current take is that we'll have 2 builds:

* Components who will stay in Nebula and we'll create the Nebula 1.0
  release (see last mail on a time schedule)

* Components who will move in Nebula-Incubator will get nightly builds

Tom
