Re: [mylyn-docs-dev] diagnosing UI test instability

Hi David,

The message dialog usually appears when something bad happens in the workbench with regards to memory and/or system resources (SWT handles). Is it possible that (und heavily load) the VM has GC issues and not enough cycle to free up memory? Could it also be that the tests are leaking SWT handles?

Devs,

I’m out of ideas on this and hoping that one of you may have some advice on where to go next:

511947: fix unstable WikiText UI test: FileTypesTest

The test sporadically causes the build to hang, usually when the build machine is under load (i.e. multiple builds are running).

The hang is caused by a a message dialog which appears in the workbench with the following message:

An SWT error has occurred.
You are recommended to exit the workbench.
Subsequent errors may happen and may terminate the workbench without warning.
See the .log file for more details.

Unfortunately the .log file doesn't appear to have any additional information in there.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot further?

David
