Re: [mylyn-docs-dev] Process for API modifications?

Jeremie,

We try to avoid breaking API since every integration will be unable to use new versions of Mylyn WikiText without making changes.  This gets expensive in terms of effort and introduces complexity in managing dependencies and compatible environments.  We are open to improvements but to justify API breakage there would have to be a very strong motivation for the change.  As Torkild points out, it's worth exploring alternative designs first since I'm not sure that API breakage is justified in this case.

Hi Jeremie,

I'm not aware of a process for handling API modifications, but there should probably be one for situations like these. I had a quick look at the code. Are you sure you cannot make the change without having to break the API?

Best regards,
Torkild
