We have typically done one or more pure Mylyn releases of new components before adding them to the release train. The Gerrit connector itself for example was released as 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9 before the 1.0 release made its way into Juno. 

It's particularly important that components that are contributed to the release train have had some real world usage to iron out compatibility issues with other bundles. There is also a risk that if you release too early to a larger community that users may get turned away and don't come back for a long time if the initial release didn't work for them.

That said, the dashboard has been out since 3.11 and we don't have any hard rules about release train contributions either. To me SR1 sounds like a good compromise. RC4 is a bit late to add new components to the train as other won't have time to test compatibility with their components and SR1 gives us some more time to look into the technical issues raised here.

I think it'll be a shame if we don't contribute the dashboard to Luna but the fact is I'm not confident that it won't cause problems for users and therefore I'm leaning towards voting -1 on contributing it to Luna. I'd like to see it in Luna RC1 (which is Sept. 26) provided the outstanding concerns get addressed.

No, it's in Mylyn 3.12 as a separate feature that users can choose to install, separate from the Gerrit connector. As far as I recall we just never decided that the dashboard was ready to be contributed to Luna. There's probably discussion about that on a bug or in an email thread somewhere...

Do we know if people are actually using it? That would give some indication of stability.
