For exactly these reasons I'm a committer on the EGit project.  I'm waiting
until the base Synchronize view/model implementation is far enough along for
us to start working on the Mylyn-specific integrations like change set
support.

An interesting thing about Mylyn is that we've implemented tool support that
covers shortcomings in CVS, such as the facilities we have for creating and
applying patches when working with tasks and change sets.  But shortcomings
like that listed in this thread still arise, and we need to continue blazing
the SCM integration path going forward.  We could explore using Git for
hosting Mylyn.  I suggest that those interested start by checking out Egit
and share their thoughts.
