RE: [mylyn-dev] Starting new Connector for Mylyn

Hi Ducharme,

Great to hear about more connector efforts coming from Canada.  Most of the Tasktop committers are currently at approximately the same latitude in Vancouver, BC :)

The main pointer I have right now is that you should consider delaying the implementation of your connector until the Mylyn 3.0 APIs are frozen on June 4th.  We have batched incorporating all of the input from integrators from the past year’s Mylyn 2.x release cycle into April and May.  The end result will be that Mylyn connectors are significantly easier to implement due to the fact that the Mylyn Tasks API will encapsulate a lot more of the implementation details that are currently exposed to and spread across connectors.

I also recommend creating a bug along the lines of “support Mylyn integration with Compuware Changepoint” where you can feel free to ask any integration and API questions that come to mind.

Mik

Subject: [mylyn-dev] Starting new Connector for Mylyn

Hi,

I’m pleased to announce that we have started a new Mylyn connector project for the issue reporting module of Compuware Changepoint (often referred as CARS).  Just a little bit of background:

For those who don’t know about Compuware, the PR stuff can be found here: http://www.compuware.com/corporate/default.htm

Changepoint is an IT portfolio management software used by big IT companies and the issue reporting is a complementary module of it.  The sales pitch can be found here: http://www.compuware.com/products/changepoint/default.htm and there:

http://www.compuware.com/products/CARS/default.htm

The team that will be spending some time on this project is located in the beautiful city of Montréal, Québec (the French speaking part of Canada) .  At Compuware, we are a few that have the chance to spend some time on open source initiatives, so we have some ppl that are getting involved in projects such as Apache MUSE, Eclipse COSMOS and I’m planning to broaden that up to other projects such as ActiveMQ and Mylyn.  This means that once the connector will be in a pretty good shape, I plan to assign some resources to help fix bugs in Mylyn (if you’re interested ;)) and recommend Mylyn to be used company wide as corporate standard (or best practice).

The connector will be using webservices to gather and update information in Changepoint.  As a side note, Changepoint is developed in .Net by the followers of the dark side ;) which some of them are also located in Montreal.  The great thing about this is that they will shape the webservices to our specifications.  I already started developing the base structure of the connector by following the Integrator Reference and I’ll be looking at Trac and JIRA as examples.

If you have any pointers, suggestions or invitation for a beer, feel free to contact me!

Have a nice day,

pld
