Re: [modeling-pmc] Project website migration to Git

HI

I just started raising similar bugs for

modeling/mdt/ocl
modeling/mmt
modeling/mmt/qvtd
modeling/mmt/qvto

and decided that I don't understand.

Presumably there will be a modeling.git which will have mdt and mmt and ... in it as a result of the copy.

If so why do we want additional GIT repos for pruned content.

It would seem that Modeling/MDT/OCL would get three copies.

Surely Modeling/MDT should only request a GIT repo for www/mdt which appears to have only placeholder content.

Surely Modeling/MDT/OCL should only request a GIT repo for www/ocl (which does not exist).

I suggest that the modeling project as a whole should request either a single GIT repo for www/modeling/..., or give detailed instructions on how www/modeling in CVS should be parceled up into non-overlapping per project GIT repo's.

Webmaster can set up a nested configuration. You can create a /gitroot/www.eclipse.org/modeling/mdt.git repository for MDT-specific stuff that mirrors what you have in CVS (permissions too).

I recommend that you go that route because it is low-impact and it will give us time to sort out the Modeling restructure.

Wayne,

If we're looking to migrate the current/legacy web sites to git, the content for UML2 and XSD (and possibly still other MDT subprojects) is under /cvsroot/org.eclipse/www/modeling/mdt. As an interim solution, do you recommend we ask that this content be migrated to new git repository for the MDT website which would, at some point in the future (when the new modeling web sites are sorted out), be discarded? If so, what should the repository be called so that it is used instead of the current CVS location to serve up pages under .../modeling/mdt/?

Greetings Modeling PMC.

AFAICT, there are several projects that have not yet initiated the migration of their project websites to Git.

PMC members: please contact these projects to ensure that they initiate the migration.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Git/Migrating_to_Git#Migrating_Your_Project_Website

These projects have their own websites. AFAICT, they have not yet made a request to webmaster to migrate.

amp
cdo
diffmerge
edapt
eef
egf
emfclient
emfstore
gmf-tooling
modeling
MoDisco
rmf
sphinx
wazaabi

These projects are terminating and their websites will be archived.

emft - Redirects to /modeling/emft
gmt
m2m
m2t
mmt

These projects have website directories that redirect elsewhere. In some cases are there are extra files that may need special consideration. In some cases, it may make sense to ask the webmaster to setup a redirect rather than migrate an otherwise empty web directory (e.g. modisco, xsd).

emf - Redirects to /modeling/emf
query2 - Redirects to /projects/project.php?id=modeling.emf.query2
modisco - Redirects to /MoDisco
uml2 - Redirects to /modeling/mdt/?project=uml2
xsd - Redirects to /modeling/mdt/?project=xsd#xsd

These project directories contain the template that webmaster provides when he creates a new project. They have been unaltered. I think that we can just ask webmaster to delete them.

gmf-notation - template
gmf-runtime - template

Thanks,

Wayne
