My understanding is that he MPC is dedicated to the Market place plugins and as such mostly dedicate to "non Eclipse.org" hosted or commercial solutions and, by the way, the MPC is tightly coupled with the Market Place website.
The discovery UI I introduced (which, as a sidenote is broken for M7 :/) is focused on the Modeling projects to give a pretty clear overview of what we are providing through our numerous components. Technically both implementation are a bit similar and are relying on the same API's, but their intent is different.

Hi all,
I'ld like to see this in the modeling EPP as well and wonder at the same time how it relates to the discover thing we (Cedric) have introduced.
I.e. are both tools different enough that we want to have both? Is one better suited to our needs than the other?
Comments?
Cheers,
Sven

Subject: [epp-dev] Marketplace Client
All,
The Eclipse Foundation has been working on a new Eclipse plugin called the Marketplace Client (MPC). MPC allows developers to directly install into their Eclipse installation a product that has been listed on the Eclipse Marketplace. The hope is that it make it much easier for developers to find and install Eclipse products.
MPC is being developed as an open source project and is part of the release train. An initial release was included in the Java IDE and RCP M6 packages. The goal is to include it in all of the packages for Helios (with the exception of the Classic). I would like to suggest that MPC is automatically added, via Markus, to all of the packages; similar to how we do UDC. This would make it easier and consistent for all the package maintainers.
I appreciate this is too late for the M7 packages but I would like to start doing this for RC1. Is this okay with everyone? MPC is an important initiative of the Eclipse Foundation, so I am hoping to have your support.
Thanks
Ian
