Re: [modeling-pmc] openArchitectureWare

Title: Re: [modeling-pmc] openArchitectureWare
Well, that certainly makes more sense.

So, what elements that were found in the GMT oAW are not found at other projects in Modeling (EMFT, M2T, TMF)?  In other words, why doesn’t the page just redirect users to the appropriate project pages within Eclipse?  Is there some functionality that is now missing from Eclipse and only available at openarchitectureware.org?

I’d be interested in the web stats on how many hits eclipse.org/gmt/oaw actually receives, particularly in comparison to the traffic openarchitectureware.org has seen.

Hi Rich,

I wanted to say, that we'll do the replacement within the next month (we'll try to do it ASAP). It would be good to have this page several months up.
And yes, there are a lot of references on the web to this URL, therefore we would like to have it kind of deprecated for some time before removing it completely.

thanks,
Sven

Hi Sven,

I don’t have a problem with the wording, but do question the value of having it posted only until Dec 1st.  If you think this is a sufficient period of time, I guess that’s OK.  Otherwise, as Anthony suggests, why not send such content directly to the newsgroups/mailing lists?

 Best,
 Rich

Hi all,

as openArchitectureWare as a project is no longer part of Eclipse, we've been asked to remove the website found under www.eclipse.org/gmt/oaw <http://www.eclipse.org/gmt/oaw>  <http://www.eclipse.org/gmt/oaw>  .
Because this has been one of the landing pages for the community of oAW, we would like to replace the current page with a single html document, explaining the changes to the community and providing a link to www.openarchitectureware.org <http://www.openarchitectureware.org>  <http://www.openarchitectureware.org/>  (which is the project's web site).

If you're all ok with it (especially with the text below), we can do so until december 1st.

 """
Over the last couple of years, openArchitectureWare has evolved from a small and relatively unknown Open Source project at Sourceforge to one of the leading toolkits for model-driven software development, thanks to a lively and dedicated committer community and a rapidly growing user base. The move to Eclipse GMT was a milestone in oAW's history. oAW is contributing its base technologies to some Eclipse Modeling Subprojects, Xpand and Xtend to M2T, the oAW Workflow to the Modeling Workflow Engine and Xtext to the Textual Modeling Framework (TMF).

As a consequence of this evolution, however, oAW can not be considered a "prototype and research project" anymore. This means that it can not stay in the Eclipse GMT project, whose purpose is to "produce a set of prototypes in the area of Model Driven Engineering (MDE)".

Therefore, as of Dec 1, 2008, openArchitectureWare will leave Eclipse GMT it's primary home on the web will remain at openArchitectureWare.org. There oAW will continue to
 * host innovative and clever new solutions to problems related to MDSD
 * be a ready-to-go, well-tuned toolkit for model-driven software development,
 * integrating best-of-breed components from Eclipse modeling

For the user of openArchitectureWare nothing will change. Internally, several components will be hosted at Eclipse Modeling and "imported" into the oAW distribution.

Thank you for your support of openArchitectureWare, and stay tuned!
 """

 thanks and best regards,
 Sven
