RE: [modeling-pmc] FW: Teneo

Bogdan,

Yes there is a list of EPL compatible licenses. You can see it here. See the yellow box on the far right hand side of the second page.

Of the items you listed, yes BSD, Apache, CPL, CDDL, etc. are all considered to be compatible licenses.

Hi Mike,

Is there a map/list of EPL compatible licenses defined somewhere?

It is very interesting how EPL deals with eclipse project dependencies to projects released under other licenses.

In the eclipse.org/stp project there are dependencies to projects that are released under Apache license and some of those projects (Apache CXF) even packages other projects that are released under CDDL for example.

I see that the Orbit project already contains projects released under Apache 2.0 licence, Apache 1.1 license, BSD style license, IBM Public License, Common Public License 1.0 - are all of these compatible with EPL?

Is it a requirement for a third party library to be used inside an eclipse project for this library to be in the Orbit list? Is eventual license compatibility (w/ EPL) enough?

Too many questions:) but hope they are not that hard to anwser.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Bogdan

Janet,

Were you aware that Teneo was prereq’ing LGPL code?

Mike,

Teneo was fully reviewed by Janet in its present form, i.e., with these known dependencies.  It does not redistribute any GPL/LGPL code; the necessary jar must be downloaded separately by the client.  Hibernate is a very popular technology, so providing integration for it has great value, despite the licensing concerns.

Teneo also supports JPA and JDO.  Note that Shaun Smith and Stefan Eberle (two guys working EclipseLink) were recently added as committers to Teneo so that the overlap between their EMF persistence work for EclipseLink and Martin's EMF persistence work for Teneo can be reconciled into more cohesive overall solution.  There is overlap, but also lots of complementary things.  It's a great example of how well our community functions.  (Martin's support for clients on the newsgroup is remarkable!)

Note that  extended capabilities such as those provided by Teneo are what's helping to make modeling so popular:

Ed,

I’m sending this to you as the project leader for EMFT.

I stumbled across Teneo this morning and would like to make you aware of an issue with it that needs to be resolved. Teneo’s dependence on Hibernate --- which is licensed under the LGPL --- is a problem, as the LGPL and EPL are incompatible. Is there not another open source persistence solution (Castor, EclipseLink) which can be used instead?
