Re: [mdt-papyrus.dev] Eclipse Oomph installer

Hello

Sorry to enter to this discussion. I have some difficulties to understand the subject.

I am a bit confused between with the following solutions:

-          Official papyrus web site that provides RCP for download (with 32/64 /linux/windows)

-          Omph setup

-          Eclipse Market Place

-          Update Site

-          EPP project

Each solution target a different audience.

For me, the initial goal is perhaps to provide an official RCP product?

Sorry if I misunderstand.

Francois

Hi, Camille,

Good point.  I think heretofore Oomph was mostly intended for developers to simplify setting up development environments, but Eclipse Foundation (read: Wayne) seems to be promoting it now as a general-purpose Eclipse Installer.  That message is going out to all of the user community.

Sébastien,

The process of adding a package starts with an enhancement request on the EPP bugzilla component to request a new Package.  Papyrus would have to provide a committer to be the Package Maintainer.  It’s documented on the wiki:

+1

And as far as I understand, the current Oomph setup for Papyrus targets developers, not end users, so we need to build a separate setup anyway. It wouldn’t be ready immediately

Thanks, Benoit.  That’s good to know.

From discussion with the Oomph team, it seems clear that the expectation/policy is that the “products” provided by the Eclipse Installer are the EPPs published by Eclipse.org, plus the core Eclipse Platform build as a minimal installation.

The team is interested in providing an extensible/customizable catalogue for products as is currently implemented for projects, but obviously that wouldn’t make the Mars release.

So, I think our best plan is to work with the EPP project to get a Papyrus Package defined for the next release, which provides visibility on Eclipse.org as well as Oomph automatically.

Cheers,

Christian

Hi Christian,

There is a pom to build the rcp releng\top-pom-rcp.xml but it isn’t working for the moment.

I just created a job on Hudson to test it [1].

Hi,

I’ve started with a discussion on the Oomph newsgroup: today’s “About the Product Catalogue” post.  It would help if I could point the Oomph team to the Papyrus RCP, but I see no sign of it anywhere.  I don’t see it mentioned in the Papyrus Wiki and the Papyrus website has no links or downloads or anything.  In fact, the “installation guide” on the Papyrus downloads site instructs the user to start by installing the Eclipse Modeling Package from EPP!

Thanks,

Christian

Could you initiate the Oomph bug in that direction?

Is the Papyrus RCP a product of the EPP project?  I think the Oomph products page is intended to present the “official” EPP packages.

If not, perhaps they would still consider adding it to the product catalogue (which would be requested by an enhancement bugzilla on Oomph).  However, Oomph is now positioned as *the* Eclipse Installer, so perhaps it requires discussion with the Planning Council to include non-EPP packages?  I don’t know.  Probably best to start the discussion with an Oomph bugzilla.

Cheers,

Christian

Hi,

Why not having Papyrus RCP available through the Eclipse Oomph installer?
