Re: [mdt-ocl.dev] Draft Slides for MDT/OCL 'Restructuring' Review

Ed,

Thanks for putting this together. More history around the OCL project can be found at http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/modeling/, as part of the original Modeling proposal. At one point we were considering making OCL a subproject of UML2 because at the OMG it's technically underneath the UML umbrella of specifications; in the end, we made it a component of EMFT so that it could be of general use to EMF modelers.

I guess I'm OK with the slides, assuming we can come up with a strategy for building and consuming the two components of the new OCL separately (and at different times). It seems odd to be that the restructured project would not be able to categorize itself as either +1 or +3 (but rather both)... and it seems somewhat inconsistent with other Modeling projects where such a distinction has been (e.g., UML2 vs. UML2 Tools, GMP runtime vs. GMP tooling) or is being (e.g., Sphinx vs. Papyrus) made by separating "frameworks" and "exemplary tools" into different projects, for very practical reasons.

I personally feel that we'd be better off creating a separate OCL Tools project, but if (other members of) the PMC are for it, whom am I to be against?

Cheers,

Kenn
