  • Thread-topic: [mat-dev] Project code repository move

Before I reply in the issue, I wanted to post my suggestions here and give the other committers a chance to give feedback.

This is the info the webmasters are waiting for:

---

    Webmaster needs to know:

    1.        If the project would prefer to move their code repositories to Gitlab or Github

    2.        What timing would be best for the project. By default it will be the due date of this issue.

    3.        What should happen to the open bugs for the project.

---

And this is what I am considering, please give me some feedback if this is fine or not

1. We prefer to move to Github

    - our website repository moved to github, and at the time of that move we discussed to go for github also with the code repository

2. I would prefer to have the move as soon as the webmasters can do it (due date in the issue is 15 August 2024)

    - at present we have a rather calm period with very little change. I see no need to wait for August (again, if the webmasters can fit this move in their schedule earlier)

3. I'd like to have the open bugs transformed into github issues on the github project (AFAIU this would be possible)

    - we have about 60 open bugs. Some of them are open for ages, but I still see value in having them transferred. I will check if some of them could be closed instead of moved.

WDYT?

Regards,

Krum

Subject: [mat-dev] Project code repository move

Hello,

As you may be aware the Foundation is working on deprecating its Gerrit instance[1].  To that end we transferred project website repositories to Gitlab/Github last year just to get projects familiar with the basic process.

In keeping with our planned timeline we have begun selecting 15-20 projects per quarter that will have their code repositories moved in the following quarter, and as you may have guessed your project has been selected as part of next quarters moves.

We’ve filed an issue(https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/4584) to track the details and conversation between the Webmaster team and the project, so please take this opportunity to discuss what timing works best for you, what should happen to your bugs(if any), and let us know on the above issue.

Want to move sooner than our default schedule of next quarter? Please comment on the issue and we’ll do our best to accommodate your timing.

If we don’t hear back from you by the due date for the above issue, we’ll work with the Foundations project team to determine if your project is still active.  Active but unresponsive projects will be moved to the Foundations Gitlab instance by default.  Inactive projects will be scheduled for termination review.

If you have any questions feel free to ask Webmaster via the above issue.

-Matt.
