Hi Markus, Eric,
Thanks for moving this discussion to the
mailing list! Markus, you are right – (I can’t judge for the rest
of the team but…) I was not aware that MAT is customized and shipped with
Motorola’s Dev Studio for Android. As the project lead of Memory Analyzer
I am very happy to see that the tool gets further adoption.
I’ll be also very interested to
learn more about your experience, i.e. things like
-
how you integrate
MAT in the product
-
was it
difficult to do so
-
were any
changes or extensions to the tool necessary, or did it work out of the box
-
…
I guess I don’t need to list
everything. Just tell us / show us whatever you feel you would like to share.
I will be also interested not only in the integration
aspect. The history of the tool is that it was developed with concrete problems
in mind – mostly from the area of JEE servers and applications on top. So,
the “normal” dumps to analyze were huge files with tens of millions
of objects, with a lot of components from different teams (libraries,
middleware, applications) and so on. I’d be happy to learn more about how
the tool is used in the mobile world - what are the useful features, what features
are missing, which features are not applicable (or with limited use), etc…
Once more – thanks for starting the
discussion. I’m looking forward to your replies.
Regards,
Krum

Subject: Re: [mat-dev] Using MAT
for Android
Hi Eric,
Thanks Eric for showing up here. I wanted to sent you an e-mail anyway,
but just didn't find the time until now.
I think the team at SAP that invented MAT, will be excited to
hear that MAT was customized and shipped with Motorolas Dev Studio for
android. I believe they don't know that yet :-)
I personally would of course be interested to hear what you have done,
but I would assume that other at SAP (and IBM)
would also be very much interested to learn what you did.
So maybe we want to schedule some kind of remote presentation?

Hi Markus!
I saw your blog post about using MAT for Android and I thought I would
circle around with you on the mailing list rather than through the
blog. If you want to discuss how we've used MAT, I'll be happy to show
you what we did and how we did it.
