Re: [m2m-iwg] Google Summer of Code

Ian/all,

If Ben and the Koneki/Minihi crew also feel there's value, I could imagine a Unified Code for Units of Measure (UCUM) implementation in Lua for GSOC.

At the moment, there are Open Source implementations mainly for Java by Regenstrief itself, an earlier, now archived Eclipse OHF one and the most recent one being part of Eclipse UOMo:
http://unitsofmeasure.org/trac/#ImplementationSupport
The test suite is already EPL, since most of it was previously used or developed together with the Java implementation at OHF (now UOMo)
http://unitsofmeasure.org/trac/wiki/FunctionalTests

To foster M2M across language boundaries with solid Unit of Measurement support for payload (e.g. coming via MQTT messages or similar) the Lua side of the M2M ecosystem should have similar support for UCUM as Java already does.

On behalf of UCUM/UOMo I would also be happy to mentor/support it, if there's at least someone else with a more solid Lua background.

WDYT?
Werner

As discussed on our call this morning, I would like to suggest participants
in the M2M IWG look for potential project ideas that a Google Summer of Code
student could help implement.

If you are interested, it is recommended you subscribe to the mailing list.
Now is the time to start recruiting students for ideas.
