Re: [m2m-iwg] m2m-iwg Digest, Vol 5, Issue 8

Hi,

While many of you might be heading to or at least watching EclipseCon, please allow me to point to this IoT and M2M related event and its CFP for another week:
http://www.chip-to-cloud.com/call-for-papers

The Chip-to-Cloud Security Forum has special focus on M2M or the IoT, plus everything related like environmental monitoring, healthcare, etc. ideally in a secure context. I may propose something related to UOMo and pointed several JCP EGs and Spec Leads, especially Trusted Java or Identity API to the proposal, but given the interest in M2M I also wanted to remind the IG of it.

Regards,
Werner

Hi,

In the last couple weekly calls, I have been talking mentioning the prototype of M2M meta-model (focused on "data tree" description at the moment) that the Koneki team has been working on. We have put a first version of this model in Koneki's git repository [1], and you can learn more about it by giving a quick glance at [2]. Please feel free to give feedback on the terminology, scope, etc. We will try to provide an example of an instance of this meta-model soon, as well as a prototype initializing an OMA-DM simulation out of a model, so as you can better understand what it can be used for.

It is still to be discussed how far this "Thing" model should go in terms of describing the data, e.g. it might make sense to bring a bit more semantics to it, such as being to able to specify the physical quantity of a Property? My opinion though is that the model should be kept as simple as possible, while still enabling "extension models" that'll bring added semantics (units, encoding/serialization hints, ?)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,
Benjamin.

Hi, all.

Any update on the Java client code?

FYI, we've successfully used the WebSphere MQTT broker library in the interim to connect to the MQTT server at eclipse.org. Source and example code is available at: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24006006, and it works fine for publishing and subscribing to the demo server.

The Paho incubator project has entered the Parallel IP process and the C language client code is now available. The Java language version is getting new package names and should be up shortly.
