Thanks, installing m2e 1.4 on eclipse 3.7 fails with unresolved dependency errors. We have been using 1.3.1 with 3.7 and haven't hit any issues so far.

Most likely the code will work with earlier Eclipse versions, for
example, I believe somebody tested m2e 1.3 with Eclipse 3.6, but you
will have to test compatibility yourself and likely deal with
installation of dependencies.
