Yes, specifically by "patent license provisions" you are talking about "patent termination", and yes
ALv2 doesn't play well with LGPL for that reason (and yes the version matters). 

However, isn't the question here for the Location Tools project whether or not it can 
accept an upstream contribution that is LGPL licensed? In which case, if it were 
ALv2 re-licensed, it would be fine and acceptable as well?
