| Hi all, I'm an engineering director with Actian Corp (formerly known as Ingres). My group is focused is on geospatially enabling our the Ingres open source database product and building in 3rd party application support for the back end db - both proprietary GIS and open source data access library support are well underway. Our company is also working on some very interesting vector processing data storage engines (aka VectorWise) that are topping many of the benchmarks these days. Eventually we'll have it understanding "geo" and that will be very exciting indeed. If others are working on similar challenges, I look forward to potential for collaboration. Some of you will know me from my work in helping start, and then run, OSGeo.org for the last 5 years. Now that I'm working solidly inside the commercial side of the industry, I'm looking forward to finding more ways of working with other businesses at a high level. I believe much of the core of geospatial technology has become commodified, similar to Autodesk's early argument for open sourcing their web mapping technology. Naturally there will still be competition in the broader db and geo world but I'm looking for a group where some real game-changing ideas might be able to be kicked around. Maybe dreaming, but I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do. Best wishes, Tyler
