Re: [linuxtools-dev] org.eclipse.linuxtools.profiling.remote?

Hey Anna,

I'd like it to be as abstract as possible. I originally tried using RSE similar to cdt.launch.remote, but I remember having a problem. When I have time to revisit this, I'll definitely try a protocol-independent approach again.

Thanks,
Elliott

Hi Elliott,
thanks for the info.

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason to limit the communication with remote host to TCF?
In the org.eclipse.cdt.launch.remote we use any connection that has files(if there is a need to download the binary) and shells.

Anna.

Is there any work going on enabling remote profiling?
I spent some time this past summer working on adding capabilities to profile with Valgrind on remote targets using TCF. The resulting work is in the profiling.remote and valgrind.remote plugins/features. There are a couple issues at the moment. The first is not being able to find TCF in any update site, I believe previously it was in CDT's. The other, trickier issue is some program output being lost.

I'd like to get a fully working implementation into a release in the near future. I haven't had the time to fix these issues just yet. There's a bug report for supporting remote targets with Valgrind: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=315504

Thanks,
Elliott
