Re: [linux-distros-dev] Problem building eclipse with JDK1.4 support

Hi. I'm an Arch Linux user and Java developer, and I assist one of the Arch package maintainers with the building and maintenance of the Eclipse package.

I've recently run into a problem when we tried to upgrade our Eclipse package from 3.2 to 3.3.1. It seems the "java5home" argument has been removed from the build scripts, and as a result I'm no longer able to build Eclipse with proper JDK1.4 support. See these bugs for more details on the issue:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=206479
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=153087

Neither the Eclipse JUnit team (the problem exhibits itself as a JUnit bug) nor the Eclipse build team has been able to answer our questions and show us how we can get our package properly built to support JDK1.4.

Can anyone here offer some assistance?

TIA,

DR

Hmmmm .... I'm still stuck here. Looks like none of the distro packagers I spoke with support JDK 1.4 anymore. And the Eclipse devs haven't had any useful responses to my bug report.

Is this destined to be a completely unsolvable problem? That'd be a shame, since it's obviously a problem that's *been* solved by someone.

Thanks,

DR
