Re: [jetty-users] Jetty, Weld, JSF

If you can get a breakpoint set on the constructor of java.lang.TypeNotPresentException, check the parameters (2nd one i think).
That will tell you what class you are missing.

Clarification.

I chose the Weld JSF 2.4.3-Final jar because that’s the version of Weld used by the latest version of Jetty, which I am running.

Subject: RE: [jetty-users] Jetty, Weld, JSF

Actually…

I did switch to the Apache JSP jars and make sure my DTDs were up to spec. But ultimately, I had to put the Glassfish JSF jar and the Weld JSF jar on the system classpath. I created two modules:

jsf.mod:

[description]

Provides JavaServer Faces support

[files]

maven://org.glassfish/javax.faces/2.3.2|lib/jsf/javax.faces-2.3.2.jar

[lib]

lib/jsf/javax.faces-2.3.2.jar

jsf-weld.mod:

[description]

Provides Weld support for JSF

[files]

maven://org.jboss.weld/weld-core-jsf/2.4.3.Final|lib/jsf-weld/weld-core-jsf-2.4.3.Final.jar

[lib]

lib/jsf-weld/weld-core-jsf-2.4.3.Final.jar

Note that I am using the latest Jetty (9.4.6.v20170531) and I chose the Weld JSF version that matches the Weld version used by that version.

Now I have one issue that I can’t figure out. I need some more help, please. I think this may be the final barrier to getting CDI and JSF to play nice together.

If I can get this working using start.jar, it should also work within IntelliJ.

My problem is this: I change to my jetty.base directory (jetty.base is c:\jettybase, jetty.home is c:\jetty)

and run java -jar \jetty\start.jar

And I see this

Never saw that exception before… Google says it is thrown when an annotation references a class that isn’t on the classpath.

I have tried debugging but don’t get anywhere. This happens very early. Not sure why it’s happening.

Thanks

Jetty has some standard modules that put them onto the server classpath, plus some setup to ensure that they get checked for taglibs etc. See http://www.eclipse.org/jetty/documentation/9.4.6.v20170531/configuring-jsp.html.  But, it may work ok if you put them into your webapp - the old Glassfish jsp jars didn't work if you did that, but the Apache ones may well work that way.

Can they go in web-inf\lib or do they need to be in jetty’s classpath?

Subject: Re: [jetty-users] Jetty, Weld, JSF

weld documentation tells you to do this differently.

1) you cannot use jetty-context.xml to configure the WebApp's ClassLoader (that's too late)

2) you cannot use Set>serverClasses>Array (as that will destroy the existing and important list of serverClasses), the calls should add/prepend.

3) CDI/Weld requires a current generation JSP + EL, which you don't seem to have.

you seem to want to use Glassfish JSP/EL, which is unsupported by Jetty (they are far too old and bug ridden).

use Apache Jasper JSP + EL. (our jetty-home and jetty-distribution modules for JSP use them)

4) your DTD references are old, not suitable for Jetty 9.0+

since you are Jetty 9.4.x, use ...

<!DOCTYPE Configure PUBLIC "-//Jetty//Configure//EN" "http://www.eclipse.org/jetty/configure_9_3.dtd">

5) Would recommend you add jul-to-slf4j.jar and setup/configure it too.  That way you can see the warnings/errors from weld/jsp/el as well in your logback logs.

I also tried creating a simple embedded server and loading the web app that way, and got the same results. Here’s my code:
