can you give us some more input?
what happened?
did anything come up?
anything in the log?

try using the java aplication launcher on the UIMain class
(set the arguments to -dev bin -data XXX)
XXX is the new workbench location (set it to sth new like:
d:\eclipseOnEclipse)

also, there was a post on the newsgroup today on how to set up the workspace
(see thread: Trouble Compiling Eclipse)

don't give up :)
better tools for that are in the works.
it should be trivial then.
