Re: [ide-dev] Eclipse User Profile

Hi

IMHO Moving on from the forum should be the first step. Solving the obstinate newsgroup/forum issues has been under discussion for too many years.

Only today I had a forum user point out that I was posting HTML replies which the forum renders with HTML tags.

Hi Ned,

Thank you for your feedback about the forum. I need to check but the link blocking issue is maybe to avoid spam: the forum engine is basic and might not be able to manage that well. We need to make it more easy to use for newcomers. I like Discourse a lot too, so let see what we can do with it. The main issue will be to see if it could be possible to import the content of the current one. And then to find good moderators.

But anyway, we need to go ahead step by step, and the first step is the user profile :-)

This looks great!  I'd love a place that combined my eclipse usage into one spot.

This is off-topic feedback, but imo, integrating with the current forum would not be time well-spent.  I've been building on top of EclipseRCP for 6 years, spoken at EclipseCon, submitted patches, yadayada.  But I don't touch the forums because I still don't have enough reputation to post links.  The forums are quite hostile to new users, and make it difficult for new users to get engaged with our community to the point that they can maybe contribute in the future.

I would loooove to see a migration to Discourse.  I've found it much easier to get involved with Discourse-based communities, because it's easier to see what's happening and subscribe to the various parts of the community that I'm interested in.

Hi,

At the Eclipse Foundation, we are working on a new project for our websites, a brand new user profile. The aim is to provide an overview of your activity on eclipse.org websites, with a simple URL, that you can share in your email signature.

This will also allow you to manage what is stored in your User Storage Service (USS)

I would like to share some mockups to have feedback, so please have a look at:

I might update it from time to time, taking in account feedback. Do not hesitate to let us know what you think. You can answer to this email or open a bug on Github here

Have a good week-end,

Antoine
