Hi Ned,

Thank you for your feedback about the forum. I need to check but the link blocking issue is maybe to avoid spam: the forum engine is basic and might not be able to manage that well. We need to make it more easy to use for newcomers. I like Discourse a lot too, so let see what we can do with it. The main issue will be to see if it could be possible to import the content of the current one. And then to find good moderators.

But anyway, we need to go ahead step by step, and the first step is the user profile :-)

This is off-topic feedback, but imo, integrating with the current forum would not be time well-spent.  I've been building on top of EclipseRCP for 6 years, spoken at EclipseCon, submitted patches, yadayada.  But I don't touch the forums because I still don't have enough reputation to post links.  The forums are quite hostile to new users, and make it difficult for new users to get engaged with our community to the point that they can maybe contribute in the future.

I would loooove to see a migration to Discourse.  I've found it much easier to get involved with Discourse-based communities, because it's easier to see what's happening and subscribe to the various parts of the community that I'm interested in.
