Re: [ide-dev] Dropping the release names (Neon, Oxygen) from user downloads

-1 for using the release year. Use a version number instead. There is no need to know which year the release was made, and it makes you look pretty silly if you have 5 years between releases (e.g. Office for Mac 2011 was only updated this year). Do you really want to obligate Eclipse to make yearly releases forever?

Hi Tracy,

I agree with you as I here very often people asking about what's the latest release, or confused about it. Even worse, I saw people using Helios and not even wondering whether it's old or not ( https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=484765 ) .
I agree that the release year is probably the simplest and most efficient name we can provide. There are a lot of existing very successful software (the main one I have in mind being Microsoft Office) that have adopted this convention and I don't think it has ever been an issue for their users or editors.

Is there a bug to track this suggestion?

Cheers,
