Here's some bugs I've reported just on Navigator, as an example (which remain open despite being an year old)

Again, I get the feeling that because none of this bugs directly affect JDT (or other JDT-like IDEs), they get no love...
The issue is not about love, but about time, resources, and priority. Those bugs are high priority for you because of your usage of the IDE, but not the same one for other contributors. Now, there is Gerrit and an efficient review process, many patches from non-committers have been merged in last release, you should consider providing patches as well, I'm ready to bet a drink that if they're simple good changes, they'll be in Mars SR1.

"Love" is a metaphor for development time :)

I agree, the next logical step should be for me to submit some patches myself. And see how that goes. However while this applies to these Project Explorer issues which mostly only affect plugin development, I worry about something like https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=438765 (the debug toolbar issue). This is far from a  niche issue, rather it's quite a central one as a JDT user, and as such a non-commiter should not have to fix it themselves! There has to be a minimum level of technical quality in the project so that non-commiters believe it is worthwhile for them to spend their time contributing as well.

Also, for https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=429572 , I can't solve it myself, because I can't tell if the bug is in the documentation, or in the code. (and from what I remember, looking at JDT and CDT doesn't make it clear because of the way they use the Navigator Content Extension)

But I will look into these issues again in the future.
