3. Contact Reports / Call for Papers
These opportunities are distributed to the Eclipse marketing and PR
teams by the Eclipse PR agency, Patterson & Associates. These mainly
consist of call for papers at events, notification of upcoming award
competitions and article submission opportunities with a variety of
publications

http://www.eclipse.org
Call for participation due to be announced. Contributions from the Test
& Performance area will be welcome. This year’s event schedule will
provide more opportunities for contributions from the additional
top-level projects around the core Eclipse platform.

- ObjectWeb Conference in Lyon, France, 17-19 January 2005
http://wiki.objectweb.org/ObjectWebCon05/Wiki.jsp?page=CallForProposals
Middleware-focused conference that offers an opportunity to Eclipse
projects or members who have technology focus in this area. An
interesting opportunity for the TPTP project to present the JOnAS
monitoring facilities. Deadline for papers is September 15th, 2004.
Suggestion that Scapa could present this paper, due to knowledge of the
specific technology area – the JOnAS monitoring agent was built by Scapa
– and also due to proximity to conference location.

- Software Test & Performance Conference, December 7-9, 2004
http://www.bzmedia.com/stpcon/
Interest in presenting papers at testing conferences, including
STAREAST/WEST conferences
ACTION: Diane to look into testing-specific conferences and share this
information with the group.

Discussion regarding creating a CVS library for presentation slides, to
facilitate quick action on call for papers etc. The presentation that
Mike (Scapa) gave at LinuxWorld would be a useful starting point for
future TPTP presentations. Also, Mike Milinkovich may have some
presentation slides describing the TPTP project, its positioning etc.
ACTION: Melanie to request slides from Mike Milinkovich and look into
setting up presentation repository on CVS.

5. PR
Article submissions from contact reports – outstanding. Note that the
response deadlines on these have passed, and that abstract submission
deadlines are closing. Immediate submissions might be welcome:
- contributed article discussing software with the focus on engineering
project management for the March/April 2005 issue of IEEE Software
Magazine. The deadline for abstract submission has passed (September
1st). Apply directly to the magazine. The application can be located
online at: http://cs-ieee.manuscriptcentral.com/ and full editorial
guidelines regarding IEEE Software can be located at:
http://www.computer.org/software/author.htm

- article for Dr. Dobbs Journal on the topic of Development Environments
& Platforms featuring Eclipse technology. The abstract submission
deadline is September 10th. Abstracts should be submitted to the Eclipse
PR agency, Patterson & Associates for consideration (email:
Barbara@xxxxxxxxxxxxx).

Discussion regarding the potential for engaging article submissions from
TPTP contributors out with the marketing group. It was generally
preferred that the obligation should not rest with the PMC to find
resource for this type of opportunity. Instead, the marketing group
should take details of the article submission contact reports to their
teams and request consideration.
ACTION: ALL to send details of contact reports to their teams
ACTION: Melanie to distribute full contact report details, including
additional information on publications’ preferences over document style
etc.

Discussion regarding whether it would be possible to utilize the website
to publicise these opportunities. It was felt that this would be
difficult in the short-term. Further discussion on the website is
covered below.

A summary of the information from these contact reports will be
distributed on hyades-dev@xxxxxxxxxxx (or the TPTP mailing list that
replaces this) as well as on the newsgroups. This will give these
reports a much wider audience.
ACTION: Melanie to distribute summarized contact report details to
hyades-dev and TPTP newsgroup.

Francois from ObjectWeb identified a PR opportunity for the TPTP
project. ObjectWeb are due to distribute press releases in September.
The first of these describes the relationship between ObjectWeb and
Eclipse and is due to be released on September 7th. The second PR will
discuss JOnAS in more detail. There is no set date for this release as
yet. This opportunity for providing a supporting quote for use in either
of the ObjectWeb PRs was well received by the group. Serge Lucio is the
TPTP project management committee lead for the monitoring project, and
so the quote may be assigned to him. It was noted that Serge and Tyler
Thessin, who is the overall project lead, may both have some PR sign-off
issues.
ACTION: Mike to discuss opportunity with PMC and inquire about possible
PR sign-off issues with the other members of the PMC – Tyler Thessin
(Intel), Serge Lucio and Harm Sluiman (both IBM).

Francois also mentioned that ObjectWeb would also be happy to consider
requests for supporting quotes for any future TPTP news releases.

Discussion regarding PR plans for the TPTP project. For example, whether
the project should consider distributing a news release regarding the
availability of the 3.1 code, due around the end of September. Also,
there is significant potential for three new members engaging with the
project in the near future. Possibility of preparing a ‘momentum’
release that would cover new member engagement and 3.1 release was
discussed. The timing of the new member engagements are fluid at this
point. If these possible new engagements for the TPTP project are also
new to the Eclipse Foundation, they will also be preparing news releases
regarding their involvement in Eclipse. There may be some difficulties
in finding the right time for this release. Potential release conflicts
and possibility of support will be raised with the Eclipse PR team.
ACTION: Melanie to seek advice on this ‘momentum’ PR idea from the
Eclipse PR team
ACTION: Mike to raise the possibility of this momentum release with
vendor companies

6. Website
Transition from Hyades information to TPTP information and structure
discussed. At this time, this is of particular concern to the project
lead, Tyler Thessin,. There may be some initial clean-up of the
structure and documentation in the shorter-term, however, the marketing
group should eventually own the outward-facing website, in terms of its
look and feel and the overall positioning aspects of the site.
Additionally, Eclipse is in the process of transitioning the eclipse.org
website away from an IBM hosted site to a new, Eclipse-owned
infrastructure. Need to understand the timelines involved in this and
work with the Eclipse marketing team to understand any Eclipse-specific
positioning requirements from the project pages.
ACTION: Melanie to find out the timeline on the Eclipse website
infrastructure transition.
ACTION: ALL to bring ideas to the group for future website improvements.

7. AOB
As this was the first meeting of the group, the aims were to distribute
information to participants regarding the responsibilities of this
group. The aims for future group meetings will include taking decisions
on actions required for participation at events etc..

The group is constituted in the same way as other TPTP development
groups, and is respectful of Eclipse rules and regulations for meetings
between Eclipse members. Also, with regard to operational activities
covered by IP policy and anti-trust regulations, it is the duty of the
lead committer to make group participants aware of these regulations.
The group does not have a lead committer at this stage, however,
participants can find details on these regulations at:
http://www.eclipse.org/org/documents/main.html

The call-in details used today are not free-of-charge. It is possible
that one of the other member companies could provide a bridge for these
meetings that would not be as costly.
ACTION: Melanie to look into various call-in options and advise the
group of next meeting call-in details.

Next meeting – proposed for next Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 5pm BST
/ 6pm CET / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT. Call-in details to be confirmed.
