|
1) Apologies etc.
Attending:
Tyler Thessin, Intel
Mike Norman, Scapa
Gian Franco Bonini, SAP
Don Ebright, Compuware
Observing:
Melanie Woods, Scapa
Apologies:
Rob Sinclair, IBM
Harm Sluiman, IBM
George Din, FOKUS
Serge Lucio, IBM
2) Minutes and matters arising
Today's call time was changed as it again conflicted with special
meeting of the committers.
3) PMC and Eclipse interaction
Some urgent actions are required following the approval of the project
proposal by the Eclipse board. These include the establishment of the
PMC, Committers group, other groups and the planning architecture and
requirements. It is hoped that some progress can be made on these over
the course of the week.
Discussion surrounding website updates and whether or not the individual
in Harm's team could continue to update the website with technical
information. Some references to the project proposal need to be removed
from the currently available pages.
Additionally, a new group is to be constituted to look into the
marketing-focused elements of the website, looking ahead to the Eclipse
website changes. Serge has been tasked with looking into this area in
the recent past, and it was proposed that Serge, Ling and Melanie could
participate in this new group, other contributors from other member
companies would also be welcome. The group would also look into events
(e.g. LinuxWorld, EclipseCon, Software Test & Performance Conference),
communication agenda, materials including presentations, white papers
for article submissions (e.g. Dr Dobbs recent opportunity) etc.
ACTION: Tyler to speak to Mike Milinkovich to find out if there was any
feedback from the presentation to the board.
ACTION: Tyler to define Req't/Arch/Planning group membership.
ACTION: PMC to identify and establish committers.
ACTION: Mike to define the terms of reference for the new marketing
group.
ACTION: Tyler to work with Susan Iwai to remove references to the
project "proposal" from the current website.
4) Operation of the current plan
No one present from the committer call.
5) Technical forward plan
A face-to-face (F2F) meeting to talk through the development of the RAC
is to take place in mid September. Hoang Nguyen is working on the
agenda.
It is proposed that the next quarterly F2F meeting will take place in
late September (w/c 27th). This should allow time for project
establishment plans, release plans and any new member contribution
coordination. It is thought that this meeting will take place on the US
east coast. Mike, Gian Franco and Don are all currently available during
that week. Confirmation of availability will be sought from the other
planning group attendees.
Discussed inviting Ian Skerrett, the new Eclipse marketing director, to
attend part of the meeting, either in person or by telephone.
ACTION: Tyler to find out if Harm, Serge and George are available for
the proposed F2F meeting in late September.
6) Internal and external communication
It was felt that there was significant Test & Performance/Hyades
presence at LinuxWorld. Other positives from the event included the
following:
- demonstrated major function points running on Linux (including, CPU
monitoring, syslog adaptor, Apache logs, HTTP test, JBoss trace). Thanks
to George Christelis at Scapa for his work in getting the demo going and
his efforts generally throughout the event.
- c. 60 people attended the round table discussion, including some
journalists
- c. 25 people attended Mike's presentation at the Intel booth
- the remaining few interviews with journalists and analysts (Gartner)
were concluded at the event. All of these went well and the analysts
viewed the project positively. The analysts were particularly interested
in the logging and monitoring capabilities.
- discussions with Linux players including RedHat and SuSE/Novell,
regarding bundling opportunities for the Hyades monitoring facilities.
If this happens, it would significantly increase the Hyades install
base.
Discussion regarding the Eclipse PR process, and the changes that will
be made to the current processes. Sign-off and approval on future press
releases will be requested via the Eclipse PR Team (Mark Johnson of
Instantiations leads this team). PR representatives from member
companies are encouraged to participate in the Eclipse PR team. PR team
meeting call-in details can be provided.
ACTION: Tyler to send LinuxWorld/Gartner presentation to planning group.
Next Planning Group meeting: Tuesday, 17th August 2004, - 5pm CET / 4pm
BST / 11am EST / 8am PST
