[hyades-dev] Planning Group & PMC Group Notes for July 13th, 2004

1) Apologies etc.
Attending:
Mike Norman, Scapa
Serge Lucio, IBM
Gian Franco Bonini, SAP
Don Ebright, Compuware
Tyler Thessin, Intel

Observing:
Melanie Woods, Scapa

Apologies:
Rob Sinclair, IBM
Harm Sluiman, IBM
George Din, FOKUS

2) Minutes and matters arising
A time change was proposed for this meeting, as there seems to be a
slight disconnect with the Eclipse marketing team. The marketing call
takes place at 9am PST on Tuesdays. A trial will begin next week with
the Test & Performance Planning Group calls taking place at 8am PST.
This decision will be reviewed in time.

3) PMC and Eclipse interaction
Tyler sent round a URL link to preview the new website content
(http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-tptp/index.html). An initial
review with Mike Milinkovich is being sought today, and the planning
group should also review and feedback on this. The objective is to
finalise these by end of July in time for the launch.
New web pages have yet to be created. These will include information on
the project structure. These also need to be in place by the August 2nd
launch date.
Serge had already provided feedback some time ago to improve the
original website's content and structure. A lot of Serge's suggested
changes have been incorporated in the proposed new web content. Serge
suggested that Nellie Chan (IBM) could help him to look into the
information that should cross over to the new Test & Performance Tools
Platform Project.
ACTION: ALL to review preview website content.
ACTION: Serge and his team to help prepare content with regard to the
new top-level project cross-over.

4) Operation of the current plan
No one present from the committer call. Need to catch up with this for
next meeting. Bug fixing is ongoing and these fixes are being committed.
Any 3.1 work is not being committed as yet.

5) Technical forward plan
A face to face meeting (F2F) is being proposed by Hoang Nguyen (Intel)
in California to discuss the future plans for the RAC. Additional
feedback on proposal is requested. Don believes there may be some
participation from Compuware at the F2F, and they will also feed into
the discussion on hyades-dev.
It was felt there is a need to discuss next steps and the roadmap as put
forward at the F2F in Edinburgh some weeks ago. The Test model Group
intends to meet this week to discuss next steps.

6) Internal and external communication
A number of press interviews have been scheduled between now and August
2nd. Mike and an Intel representative participated in a call with a
journalist on Monday 12th July. It was noted that this journalist
commented that the project was ahead of Microsoft by a couple of years.
There is not enough funding available for the Eclipse PR agency
(Patterson) to continue their proposed level of outreach, and, for a
number of reasons, it is now too late to bring any additional funding to
the table to make this happen. Patterson has made between 20-30 initial
approaches to press and analysts, and there is an expectation that there
will be a few additional interview requests to be dealt with. It is
proposed that Melanie will coordinate these with support from Ling Yao
(Intel) regarding logistics/arrangements etc.
None of the Linux-specific press has committed to an interview at this
stage. Tyler will examine possibilities of additional pro-active
approaches to these journalists and any other targets.
Tyler has added a couple of questions and changed the order of some of
the questions in the FAQ document that will support the press release.
A draft matrix of supported open source technologies was distributed to
the PR mailing list by Mike, requesting feedback and further advice on
completeness and correctness. No feedback has been received. Mike will
send it to the wider hyades-dev list for comments. This will then be
used within the FAQ document as a response to a "which open source
technologies are/will be supported?" type of question.
We need to coordinate LinuxWorld activities. Tyler will ask Ling to
attend next week's planning group call to discuss Intel's plans. It is
possible that Jonathan Khazam will attend the event and may be available
for interviews.
ACTION: Melanie to coordinate new requests for interviews
ACTION: Tyler to address issue of proactively contacting Linux-specific
and other target publications with Ling and Intel PR.
ACTION: Tyler to send updated FAQ document to the PR mailing list.
ACTION: Mike to email matrix to hyades-dev
ACTION: Tyler to invite Ling to next planning group call

Next Planning Group meeting: Tuesday, 20th July 2004, - 5pm CET / 4pm
BST / 11am EST / 8am PST
