Jim,
Thanks very much for
stepping up. It would be great if we could coordinate/ keep this
discussion on the list so that in addition to supporting
Eamonn and getting the IdAS Solution wiki pages updated, we also
captured general feedback that is relevant to other parts of
Higgins.

Hi Eamon. I'll take a look at the solution, I'm sure it's out of date
and poorly documented.

<eamonnoconnell@xxxxxxxxx> 12/5/08 4:50 AM >>> Hi all,
I've been aware of Higgins for some time now, and on the suggestion of
one of the xri/xdi heads have now decided to take a closer look. The
introductory documentation is very good. It gives a good insight into the
problem space higgins is operating in, and its strategy for solving those
problems. After enjoying the introductory docs and presentations, the
documentation seems to fall down after this, and I've become a little lost. I
decided to glean what I could from the source code, but this doesn't seem to be
easy for the uninitiated. Many of the download links don't seem to be working
for me.
I'm particularly interested in the IdAS components, so I wanted
to take a look at the sample solution listed on the project page to get a feel
for it. The solution page suggests that eclipse users use a provided Team
Project Set. The problem with this set is that connections to the listed
repositories be made over ssh, which requires unspecified credentials. By
removing the ssh component of the protocol in the urls for the respositories I
managed to overcome this hurdle.
My next challenge (as required by the
solution) was to get an LDAP server started. The solution suggested a simple
Java LDAP server. With associated terms like "simple" and "easy way", I figured
this LDAP server was for me, but the link given again looks for an unspecified
set of credentials. Is there a default anon/anon set that everyone else knows
about that I should be putting in? At this point, I decided to look for someone
to contact, and found this list.
I'm not the kind of wet-behind-the-ears
developer who (usually in his ignorance) gets on the mailing list or forum
demanding to know or complaining about why something is not as he expects it to
be. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication that goes into projects like
these, and the emerging standards that they implement, and I'm willing to help
if/where I can. Perhaps this little piece of feedback is a start.
I look
forward to any replies on this,
Merry
Christmas,
Eamonn.
