Tony, why do you not agree that these make life simpler? Or is it just a matter of detailing Java 5 features for those who haven't done development using Java 4 followed by 5?

Paul's response to the effect that Higgins is conservative about
upgrading to more recent version of things is comforting.  And I
have no reason to doubt that this is the policy.

Nevertheless, comments such as the above are somewhat disquieting.

Simplifying life for developers is not the goal; simplifying life
for users is.  Here's another rule of thumb I'll suggest.  Make
sure that you will never have to tell any user "upgrade to version
??? of ???".

I'm not making any accusations here.  I'm just being a bit of a nag
with what I hope is a friendly reminder.  I definitely have heard
the above "solution" elsewhere.
