Subject: Re: [higgins-dev] support
for devices in model
Here’s some
additional background. The current Context Data Model defines the following
taxonomy to which I’ve added Hank’s Device:
Agent - An agent (e.g.
person, group, software or physical artifact).
Group - A class of Agents
Organization (disjoint with Person)
Person - A contextualized aspect of a person
Device -
<Hank, please propose a one sentence definition>
[BTW, I presume that we
would make Device disjoint with Person and Organization. (In other words any
given Entity instance can be a kind of Person or a kind of Organization or a
kind of Device but never more than one of these at once).]

I attended the recent
Higgins Developer's face to face meeting with
several goals. One was to discuss the proper way to deal with the
identity of devices in the IdAS model. There are use cases for
devices and other related attributes, such as location and posture
information. The discussion around supporting devices was basically
positive.
The method suggested to support devices is the same way a person is.
That means make "device" a sub-class of Agent. The point of
this
email is to open up the conversation to everyone and to see if anyone
has another view on the way of supporting devices.
Thanks
