[gmf-dev] Bugzilla 113708: EMF Transaction API Enhancements

Hi, all,

I am beginning work on Bug 113708 "EMF
Transaction API Enhancements" in the GMF technology project for M4,
currently drafting a design specification.

The purpose of this plan item is to
define a replacement for the legacy "Model Services Layer" (MSL)
API in the GMF Run-time component, which provides a variety of object and
resource management functions for EMF.  The current MSL is defined
primarily in the org.eclipse.gmf.runtime.emf.core plug-in.

The principal design goals include:

• trimming the API to the bare essentials.  Much of the existing API serves requirements that are obsolete or not pertinent to GMF applications
• improving Eclipse workspace and workbench integration

More specific requirements are outlined
in the Bugzilla.

The intent is to contribute this new
API to the EMFT technology project, while maintaining the current API for
compatibility and additional application-specific capabilities.
