Re: [gef-dev] Changed update-site and drop file locations

The releases composite site is useful for some end users, but many build systems out there that are based on p2 repository urls reference urls for specific releases, whether you’ve specifically published them on the website or not. The alternative is to not have a reproducible build.

I’ve updated my builds already, but I still wanted to point out that changing repository URLs like this is not a good practice.

It is. We never published the URLs of sites nested below /tools/gef/updates/releases, and these were thus not preserved. As I said, the composite site itself delegates.

This doesn’t seem to be the case. The following doesn’t exist, for instance.

Subject: [gef-dev] Changed update-site and drop file locations

Hi all,

please be aware that as a preparation for the upcoming Neon release, we have adjusted our update-site and drop file urls as follows:

- Draw2d 3.x / GEF (MVC) 3.x, Zest 1.x Releases:

- Draw2d 3.x / GEF (MVC) 3.x, Zest 1.x Milestones:

- Draw2d 3.x / GEF (MVC) 3.x, Zest 1.x Integration:

- GEF3 drop files location (the intermediate change was applied yesterday):

/tools/gef/downloads/drops -> /tools/gef/gef3/downloads/drops -> /tools/gef/downloads/drops/legacy

- GEF4 drop files location:

/tools/gef/gef4/downloads/drops -> /tools/gef/downloads/drops/gef4

I have added composite repos at the original GEF 3.x update site locations, which delegate to the new urls, so these urls should still be accessible. The drop files are also still provided at the old locations (I will remove them during the quiet week as soon as all mirrors are properly synched). The GEF 3.x features have been updated to refer to the new locations for updates. I have promoted an RC4 build (gef-master #1952) containing these changes.

Please update your targets or scripts to refer to the new update-site urls. If you run into any problems, please report them at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=495488.

Regards,

Alexander
